Costumes

In the integral system of education envisioned by Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, sports and cultural components are given equal importance and priority alongside academics. Among the various cultural elements, dramatics and theatrics occupy an exceptional position. SSSIHL has in-house facilities for the entire production of drama, and a vital component of this includes costume designing and make-up.Costumes and accessories play an important role in the actualization of a play, serving as non-verbal elements in an artist’s performance.

The costumes department houses clothing and accessories for myriad themes and settings, encompassing Indian gods and saints, great western personalities, historically important figures, and everyday social characters. A character is dressed entirely in suitable and appropriate clothing, and make-up is applied by trained students. Several dramas and stage plays are scheduled in the academic calendar of the University providing opportunities for the students to showcase their creative ideas.

A character may assume many shades in the drama, and the metamorphosis of the character is best depicted in the seamless transition of costumes and make-up. Students utilize their creativity and talent in planning such transitions, executing them with precision in a short duration during the drama.

Overall, the department provides a platform for students to explore their talents and imaginations, instilling in them a sense of confidence and a flair for creative art.

Over the years, the department has transitioned from purchasing clothes, crowns, jewellery, and accessories to producing them in-house by procuring raw materials and working on them. Students are trained and mentored by senior faculty who initiated the department, alumni as well as make-up artists and costume designers from the film and theatre industry.
